Heart 9-11 is a volunteer-run organization founded in response to 911, with a mission to help people and communities—particularly veterans, firefighters and police officers—recover from disasters by building and repairing homes and community facilities.
Heart 9/11 approached architects Gregg Wies & Gardner Architects to assist with a major reconstruction project in Hamden, CT for parents of a young family, an Army and Marine Corp veteran respectively, and their young daughter.
This renovation project entailed gutting and rebuilding the existing first floor and installing a new kitchen, adding a second floor and bathroom, and renovating the yard front and rear. The goal was to add additional indoor living space to an existing one-story house, and add outdoor living space and a play yard for a growing family.
Viking Kitchens was proud to partner with Heart 9/11 and to support this family by pledging the time and materials for the design and installation of the new kitchen and bathrooms.
Viking Kitchens Senior Designer Roberta Melotto has crafted a beautiful combination of cabinets and counters in the kitchen, and vanities and tiled floors for the bathrooms. Viking Kitchens designers, Larry and Andy Pelletier—a father and son team at Viking Kitchens, personally installed the cabinets in the remodeled kitchen and bathrooms.
This was a very personal project for us at Viking Kitchens.
